Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (Physiatry)
As medicine becomes more sophisticated and life expectancy for Americans increases, the goal of "good health" relates to the quality of life. Physiatry is often called the “quality of life profession” because the goal is to restore optimal patient function. The job of a physiatrist is to treat any disability resulting from disease or injury. The focus is not on one part of the body, but instead on the development of a comprehensive program for putting pieces of a person’s life back together after injury or disease—medically, socially, emotionally, and vocationally.

When treating patients with severe physical problems, we often serve as the leader of an interdisciplinary team. This team may include medical professional such as neurologists, psychiatrists, orthopedic surgeons, and urologists, as well as non-physician health professionals including physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, vocational counselors, psychologists and social workers. A different team is assembled for each patient, and the team’s composition changes during treatment to match the evolving needs of the patient.

NWMR uses innovative treatments, positively affecting quality of life by improving the daily function of our patients. Some of the conditions we treat are post-polio Syndrome, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, spasticity, Stroke rehabilitation (CVA), pediatric rehabilitation, Cerebral Palsy, amputation and prosthetics, sports-related injuries and work-related injuries.

Our goal is to facilitate your rehabilitation to get you moving again and living your life. NWMR is very passionate about healing and educating you as a whole so you understand the process and what to expect next.
