Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) has many causes, amongst them falls, motor vehicle accidents and assaults. TBI can happen at any age and the struggles involved in recovery can be frustrating and lengthy.

TBI’s can be extremely trying to both the patient and the family members involved. As a brain injury progresses and changes, it can be a difficult and frustrating journey as the patient and family struggle to understand the broad and constantly changing spectrum of symptoms and disabilities. The impact on the patient and family can be devastating. At NWMR we believe that educating and problem solving for the patient and family is an important part of the healing process. The progression of treatment can be long and confusing.

TBI’s vary from a mild case that changes the mental status or consciousness to a severe case where unconsciousness or amnesia can result. TBI’s are typically caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head. In more severe cases, a penetrating injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain can occur. In these cases the healing process can be slow and require a large team of professionals to help the patients return to normalcy of life.

Brain tumors, and lack of oxygen to the brain (hypoxia) are other common causes of brain injuries that may not come from a traumatic episode. We help to guide you through the maze of uncertainty.
